About the role

Metropolitan State Hospital is seeking Marriage and Family Therapists to provide mental health treatment for individuals experiencing mental and emotional disorders. In this role, you will deliver both individual and group therapy, addressing the needs of patients with chronic illness, challenging behaviors, addictions, and other specialized mental health concerns. This position requires collaboration with interdisciplinary treatment teams in an inpatient forensic psychiatric setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health treatment for individuals with mental and emotional disorders.
  • Deliver individual and group therapy.
  • Address patient needs related to chronic illness, challenging behaviors, addictions, and other specialized mental health concerns.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams in an inpatient forensic psychiatric setting.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited university.
  • Eligibility for employment through permanent civil service status, reachability on an employment list, transfer eligibility, or reinstatement eligibility.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of professional experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in a mental health setting (desirable).
  • Active LMFT licensure with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) (highly desired).

Pay

$8,133.00 - $10,378.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

About the facility

Opened in 1916, DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital is located in Norwalk, 15 miles east of Los Angeles. The hospital operates approximately 826 beds and treats patients under the following commitment categories: Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act, Incompetent to Stand Trial (PC 1370), Offenders with Mental Health Disorders (Penal Code Section 2964/2972/2974), and Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (PC 1026). The facility has an open campus within a security perimeter.
