Matisse Records is a new independent label based in New Jersey, aiming to become a semi-well-known name in the Northeast over the next five years. We focus on a curated roster of artists, promoting fair and transparent contracts, affordable services, diverse music genres, and women in the music industry—without the use of generative AI.
About the role
The Marketing and Business Development Intern will support daily activities related to promoting Matisse Records and its artists, as well as expanding label partnerships. This hybrid role is based in Roseland, NJ, with a mix of on-site work and some work-from-home flexibility.
Responsibilities
- Assist with social media campaigns
- Conduct market and audience research
- Help identify potential collaborators and indie label partners
- Support outreach efforts to artists and industry contacts
- Develop marketing strategies
- Prepare pitch materials
- Track engagement metrics
- Contribute ideas to improve the label’s visibility and business development initiatives
Qualifications
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Market research skills to analyze trends, audiences, and competitors in the music and entertainment space
- Sales and marketing strategy skills to support campaigns, outreach, and business development initiatives
- Interest in the music industry, independent labels, and artist advocacy, with a willingness to learn about fair contracts and royalties
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment in Roseland, NJ, manage time effectively, and collaborate with a small, evolving team
- Familiarity with social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) and basic digital marketing tools
- Current student or recent graduate in Marketing, Business, Communications, Music Business, or a related field (preferred)
