About the role

Lead with a team of experienced leaders To expand our North American presence and capitalize on recent projects — such as the Ontario Line South in Toronto and the 2nd Avenue Subway in Manhattan — we are seeking a Market Director to join our Business Development Infrastructure team. In this role, you will work alongside national and international experts specializing in mass transit, water tunnels, roadway tunnels, and other critical heavy underground infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Identify strategic clients and proposals;
  • build and maintain a healthy pipeline ensuring regular updates of the COWI Pipeline for mass transit and underground pursuits;
  • Build strategic, trusted customer relationships and identify substantial business potential within the infrastructure portfolio;
  • Develop capture planning, lead teaming efforts, and oversee proposal development for key pursuits, including mass transit projects and various tunnel infrastructure;
  • Oversee proposal managers and collaborate closely with project managers and regional Market Directors across the US and Canada;
  • Define and implement growth initiatives aligned with corporate growth objectives for infrastructure sector expansion;
  • Set annual revenue targets for the sector and ensure an adequate pipeline is identified in partnership with senior management;
  • Support recruitment and retention of key technical and business development personnel alongside the VPs of Engineering;
  • Support overall business area development, including sales growth, professional development, and general leadership.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 20+ years of experience focused on underground infrastructure, with an emphasis on mass transit (mandatory), water tunnels, roadway tunnels, and other heavy underground sectors;
  • A M.S. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field;
  • A Licensed Professional Engineer (PE);
  • Extensive experience in business development and project delivery for large-scale underground infrastructure projects;
  • Deep regional knowledge and exposure in North America, especially West Coast (California) or East Coast (New York, Washington DC) markets;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and pursue market opportunities, forging strong client relationships and securing major pursuits;
  • Demonstrated success in leading multi-disciplinary pursuits, capturing profitable work, and supporting project execution delivery;
  • Experience with strategic capture planning, pipeline management, and business growth aligned with company goals.

Pay

Base compensation: $240,000 to $277,000 for Long Beach, San Diego, Oakland, and New York locations only. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, skill set, and location.
