About the role
This job is primarily responsible for taking ownership of day-to-day operations and various roles within the business as it is exposed to the various business functions. This role will learn and utilize leadership skills and assume responsibility to ensure efficient and profitable operations while facing different and new challenges each day.
Responsibilities
- Manage the company's safety initiative: work with management and assumes authority to lead, direct, communicate, and enforce the company's safety program at assigned location(s).
- Manage the operations for efficiency and profitability.
- Effectively utilize all Harbor Management aspects to ensure accurate picture of fleet (e.g., traffic entry, customer reports, invoicing, etc.).
- Aid in documentation preparation related to vessel/fleet break away (e.g., notification to applicable authorities, processing of claims due to damage, notification and reporting to management).
- Provide oversight of duties performed by security and compliance staff to ensure compliance with company programs and The United States Coast Guard.
- Participate in and manage business planning (e.g., Forecast, 3 Year Plan, Month End Estimates, revenue summaries and recaps); understand and explain all aspects that go into and affect these reports.
- Assist in the project planning process to include capital budget and request for funds; work with various business partners throughout the organization.
- Proactively manage with direction and support of fleet, shipyard, boat and maintenance; provide recommendations for equipment repairs and/or improvements focusing on safety and efficiency.
- Depending on business needs, may rotate through various departments at a location or locations.
Requirements
- Education Required - Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, experience and/or training.
- Experience Required - None.
- Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Preferred – Experience in river operations, logistics, and/or transportation. Knowledge of or ability to learn stevedoring, barge, marine and/or logistics. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization. Intermediate computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Problem solving, conflict management, and negotiating skills. Leadership and managerial skills. Ability to use logical thought process to interpret various situations and requests to troubleshoot and solve problems. Ability to relocate throughout the United States once training is finalized and ready to promote into new role.
Qualifications
- Physical Demands & Requirements Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to safely walk on barge surface(s) with the ability to work around deep water. Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person, virtually, by phone and over two-way radio. Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion. Confined Spaces. Ability to work in confined and space restricted areas. Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles. Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles. Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Environmental Conditions The work environments described here are meant to be representative of those an employee would normally encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment. Exposure to such conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes, or skin.

Pay
The expected base pay range for this role is: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 Actual pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including work location, job-related knowledge, skills and relevant experience for the job.
