Marine Mechanic/Electrical Technician

About the role

The employee shall provide Support Services for maintenance, overhaul, and upkeep of rigid hull inflatable boats for the USCG, USN, MSC, and other Government agencies. The candidate must support nonsupervisory work involving the dismantling, repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning, and installing of a wide variety of marine machinery, equipment, and systems. This includes propulsion machinery, propellers, and related systems. The work requires practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components of diverse marine machinery, their operating characteristics, functional relationships, installation and repair procedures, and the unique environmental conditions aboard marine craft.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on government vessels.
• Perform equipment and component assessments and repairs, including identifying failures and potential failures.
• Assess the condition of boats and components.
• Perform repairs and replacements of small boat sponson collar systems.
• Conduct mechanical and electrical repairs and replacements of trailer components.
• Perform regular scheduled boat maintenance, including:
  • Oil and filter changes
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting, installation, and testing
  • Greasing
  • Component replacement
  • Cleaning/safety gear
  • Component repair
• Conduct operational testing and quality inspections:
  • Operationally test boats prior to delivery
  • Maintenance Procedure Card processing
• Identify materials required for repairs and service.
• Manage progress and ensure work is performed correctly, on time, and according to contractual guidelines.
• Inform management of progress status and requirements.
• Transport boats using company-provided vehicles for pickup and delivery across the continental US.
• Launch and recover boats for testing and evaluation.
• Operate a forklift safely.

Requirements

• High School Diploma (Required).
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a marine mechanic (Required).
• Must have or be able to obtain current USCG-approved boating course certification.
• Must have or be able to obtain a passport.
• Experience using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and strong communication and organizational skills.
• Prior experience with RHIB for federal or USCG boats is desirable.
• Must provide a clean driving record.
• Must provide your own tools and toolbox.
• Must pass a standard background check.
• Travel CONUS and OCONUS up to 10% of the time (full per diem and company-paid travel provided).

Desired Skills

• Familiarity with Mercruiser Bravo series outdrives.
• Familiarity with Caterpillar Marine Diesel engines.
• Familiarity with Mercury Outboard engines.
• Familiarity with Hamilton jet drives.
• Familiarity with Cummins QSB 6.7 marine engines.
• Familiarity with various marine propulsion diesels under 300hp.
• Familiarity with DC Systems and schematics.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in an office, industrial, or shipboard environment.
• Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperatures.
• Lifting and moving materials within guidelines for one-person lifts.

Place of Performance

This role is based in the Industrial Park Area of Virginia Beach, Virginia, at our boat warehouse and repair facility. Reliable commute or relocation to Virginia Beach, VA 23462 is required. Travel to OCONUS locations may be necessary.
