About the role

You will join, fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques. This position plays a critical role in ensuring successful and safe work is performed onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations, vital to protecting and serving our Military.

Responsibilities

• Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed; select or adapt standard procedures or equipment using fully applicable precedents.
• Receive initial instructions and equipment requirements; perform recurring work independently with work reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.
• Construct components, subunits, or simple models; adapt standard equipment.
• Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
• Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
• Conduct various tests or experiments, which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures, and subjective judgments in measurement; select, set up, and operate standard test equipment and record test data.
• Extract and compile engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports; process data, identify errors or inconsistencies, and select methods of data presentation.
• Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts.
• Develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications.
• Use judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
• Assemble or install equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting.
• Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operate and adjust simple test equipment; record test data.
• Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings; perform computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plot data and draw simple curves and graphs.
• Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Requirements

• Active Interim Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
• This position supports a U.S. Government Contract whose terms require Serco to staff it only with U.S. Citizens, able to obtain access to shipyards.
• High School diploma or GED.
• 2 years of experience (shipboard experience highly preferred).
• OSHA 10 certification or ability to obtain the certification.
• Ability to work in areas with drafts, noise, and temperature variation.
• Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for the majority of the shift while standing, crouching, or walking.
• Attention to safety is critical.
• Familiarity with NAVSEA standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
• Ability to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout the work shift.
• Willingness to work second shift and more than 40 hours per week.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

Pay

Salary range for this position is provided as a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by factors including scope of the role, relevant experience, job-related knowledge, education, training, key skills, and geographic market considerations.
