Marine Electrician

Key Responsibilities

• Aid in the operation and monitoring of propulsion machinery, including main engines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
• Participate in planned maintenance activities, routine inspections, and troubleshooting of machinery and equipment.
• Stand engine room watch as per duty roster, monitoring machinery parameters, responding to alarms, and implementing corrective actions.
• Maintain safety compliance by adhering to all safety procedures, regulations, and industry standards.
• Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper documentation.
• Participate in emergency drills and response procedures, demonstrating proficiency in fire-fighting, damage control, and other emergency protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and fuel consumption.
• Collaborate with the engineering team, deck officers, and other crew members to achieve operational objectives.

Requirements

• USCG endorsement as a Qualified Member of the Engineering Department (QMED) - electrician/refrigerating engineer.
• At least five (5) years minimum work experience as a marine electrician.
• Experience in the installation of electrical devices and wiring aboard commercial or military ships.
• Experience with USCG and ABS rules for electrical practice and repair/maintenance of marine electrical power generating and distribution systems.
• Endorsement issued in the grades of chief engineer (limited) or assistant engineer (limited) of steam, motor, and/or gas turbine-propelled vessels.
• Ability to work collegially with scientists, natural resource managers, and educators.
• Membership or willingness to join the International Organization of Masters, Mates, and Pilots union.
• Pass a drug screening and background check.
• U.S. passport and valid US state issued driver’s license.
