About the role

The Marine Electrical Manager leads all electrical activities related to the overhaul, installation, maintenance, and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems. This position provides technical direction and oversight for electrical engineers, technicians, and field service personnel supporting marine diesel engine power systems products and services to defense and commercial industry customers. The role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and involves direct management of 2-6 employees. Domestic and international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical operations by coordinating electrical testing, calibration, troubleshooting of propulsion control and automation systems, monitoring, and auxiliary systems while supervising electrical personnel.
• Interface directly with customers, OEMs, and internal engineering teams to resolve electrical and automation issues, provide technical guidance, and develop labor estimates for proposals and quotes.
• Develop and maintain electrical SOPs, test documentation, and supporting project documents, ensuring compliance with U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, OEM, MIL-SPEC, NAVSEA, and ISO 9001 requirements.
• Support engine overhauls and new installations by overseeing electrical wiring, sensors, control panels, system integration, and configuration control, maintaining calibration records and electrical QA documentation in accordance with FMS’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
• Perform supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, evaluating performance, recognizing and disciplining employees, resolving concerns, and developing employee skills and competencies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of marine propulsion, generator control, automation, and control systems (e.g., Woodward, Siemens, ABB, or similar); familiarity with diesel engine controls and systems (MTU, Cummins, Caterpillar, Isotta Fraschini) preferred.
• Strong understanding of U.S. Navy shipboard electrical standards, schematics, and control architectures.
• Expertise in electrical/electronic troubleshooting, diagnostics, and calibration.
• Ability to lead and mentor technical teams in both shop and field environments while managing electrical projects, ensuring safety, high-quality, and efficient execution.
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills.
• Strong organizational, time-management, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
• Adherence to ISO and OHSAS policies with high values for safety awareness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 8 years of experience involving marine electrical systems or electrical engineering, including 3 years in a leadership role.
• ERP or project tracking systems experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch.
• May lift and/or move up to 35 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
• Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates.
• May work in confined spaces and at varying heights.
• PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
