Marine Diesel Mechanic

About the role

Situated on 26 acres, Blakeley BoatWorks is a full-service shipyard focusing on new construction and marine repair projects. We have a 1,900-short-ton capacity floating dry dock and a 660-short-ton Travelift, supported by a professional and skilled workforce dedicated to high-quality and safe work.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot diesel engines and related systems on tugboats.
• Thoroughly understand marine diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and associated equipment.
• Proactively solve problems while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
• Work on engines from various makes including EMD, Caterpillar, John Deere, and Cummins.
• Diagnose and fix issues such as excessive smoke, low power, engine vibrations due to internal failures, fuel systems, and electronic control systems.
• Perform major engine component repairs within customer-specified timelines.
• Oversee major in-frame overhauls meeting industry standards for engine components like main bearings, gear train assemblies, cylinder packs, cylinder heads, turbochargers, and more.
• Rigging for lifting engines for major service work.
• Be willing to work overtime to address customer vessel repairs as needed.
• Lead teams in executing all above tasks.

Requirements

• Experience working on diesel engines in a marine environment.
• Availability for on-call and weekend work.
