Mariachi Teacher - High School

Major Duties/Essential Functions

• Provides and is accountable for the planning, assessment, instruction, communication, human relations, safety, and management of a classroom or assigned instructional setting.
• Supports FCPS mission to "inspire, enable, and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead ethical lives, and demonstrate responsible citizenship."

Qualifications

• Education/Certification: Relevant teaching certification and/or educational background in music.
• Expertise: Demonstrated experience and expertise with Mariachi music performance and pedagogy.
• Teaching Experience: Proven experience teaching traditional Mariachi instruments and vocal styles, preferably at the secondary (high school) level.
• Flexibility: Willingness to accommodate after-school rehearsals and performance schedules.
• Cultural Competence: Experience creating curricula that reflects Mariachi traditions and is culturally responsive.
• Recruitment Skills: Ability to effectively market and recruit students to participate in the music program.
• Language: Bilingual Spanish/English is highly desired to enhance instruction and connection to the cultural roots of Mariachi.

Requirements

• All applicants must meet the certification requirements of the commonwealth of Virginia.
