About the Role
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning, employing appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter and meet diverse student needs. The director and assistant directors will design, teach, and execute the show for the marching season.
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of marching band instruction, including drill writing, drill teaching, music arranging, marching instruction/techniques, and percussion instruction.
Schedule
- Band Camp: August 17–21, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM and August 24–28, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Marching season: First full day of school in September through the end of the football season in November (rehearsal schedule to be determined by Director)
- Winter season: January–April (rehearsal schedule to be determined by Director)
- Mandatory attendance at all football games as scheduled by the Athletic Director
- Attendance at Veterans, Memorial, and Juneteenth Parades and Flag Raisings
- Additional spring rehearsals may be required for community events, including parades
Responsibilities
- Design, write, and arrange shows appropriate to the instrumentation
- Work with consultants and volunteers to ensure exemplary student instruction
- Communicate with consultants and volunteers to prepare for student needs
- Perform at all designated school and community events
- Prepare and rehearse students for field shows, parade marching, and pep activities
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and progress, modifying instruction for individual needs, including students with special needs
- Complete necessary paperwork, including field trip forms, permission slips, and transportation forms
- Obtain quotes for materials and music required for student success
- Create and maintain a performance and rehearsal calendar, distributing copies to students, parents, and administrators in advance
- Stay current with developments in the marching band field through seminars, professional organizations, workshops, or research
- Maintain accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for student activities, achievement, and attendance
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents
- Enforce school and district policies on student conduct and behavior
- Select and requisition instructional aids, supplies, and equipment, maintaining inventory records per district policies
Pay
Stipend as per NBEA contract, pending budgetary approval and student enrollment.
