About the role
The Town of Marana is seeking a Communications Specialist to develop and implement strategic communications that enhance the Town’s image, inform residents, and promote community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Create, write, edit, and distribute content for various platforms including news releases, social media, website, newsletters, and marketing materials.
- Serve as the Town’s media contact; respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local media outlets, community organizations, and stakeholders.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage and public sentiment regarding the Town.
- Assist with crisis communications and emergency public information as needed.
- Plan and execute public events, press conferences, and community outreach activities.
- Manage the Town’s social media presence, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement.
- Collaborate with Town departments to ensure accurate and timely communication of programs, services, and initiatives.
- Develop and maintain the Town’s branding and style guidelines.
- Oversee photography, videography, and graphic design projects to support communications efforts.
- Coordinate with external vendors for printing, advertising, and promotional materials.
- Track and report on communications metrics and effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
- Experience working in or with government agencies is highly desirable.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms.
- Experience with media relations, including writing news releases and responding to media inquiries.
- Proficiency in social media management and digital communications tools.
- Experience with graphic design, photography, and videography is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license and ability to travel as needed for events or meetings.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and content management systems.
- Knowledge of AP Style and ability to adhere to branding guidelines.
