About the Study
This research examines the role of positive affect and school belonging on the academic improvement of students who participated in a growth mindset intervention as part of the National Study of Learning Mindsets (NSLM).
- The first phase involves sentiment analysis to assess the effect of narrative reflections students wrote after the intervention.
- The second phase explores the relationship among students’ affect in their reflections, self-reported school belonging, and academic improvement from 8th to 9th grade.
The study will produce reusable R code and an NSLM-specific lexicon to help future researchers analyze open-ended responses. The analysis will also clarify how students’ affect toward the intervention and sense of school belonging influence its effectiveness.
