About the role

We apply advances in robotics and software to solve real-world problems that enhance our customers' experience in ways we cannot even imagine yet. Amazon Robotics is located in the greater Boston area, the epicenter of robotics innovation. Our diverse team of engineers comes from all over the world to design, test, and build our dynamic fleet of robots and mechatronic systems. This role focuses on test development and sustaining engineering for electro-mechanical sub-assemblies, including printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), sensors, and vision systems. You will maintain test station uptime, investigate failures to root cause, and optimize automated test solutions to drive improvements in product yield, test coverage, and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sustaining engineering and troubleshooting for manufacturing test systems across internal factory and contract manufacturing (CM) sites to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and minimize downtime.
  • Design, develop, and validate automated test sequences and custom test fixtures for electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.
  • Define test strategies, evaluate product testability (Design for Test/DFT), and establish strict acceptance criteria to deliver robust test solutions.
  • Own and resolve escalated test-floor incidents, serving as the technical point of contact and participating in on-call rotations.
  • Maintain, debug, and optimize automated test sequences utilizing standard frameworks (e.g., NI TestStand, LabVIEW) for assigned product lines.
  • Analyze product yield, coverage, and reliability metrics to identify failure trends, driving Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance test processes, reduce false reject rates (FRR), and optimize test coverage.
  • Execute test script updates, instrument calibrations, and fixture deployments or retrofits with minimal supervision.
  • Document and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), test specifications, preventive maintenance (PM) plans, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Propose engineering change orders (ECOs) to improve product manufacturability (DFM) and testability (DFT).
  • Mentor junior engineers, test technicians, and peers on best practices in test automation and fault isolation.
  • Promote a safe working environment by strictly adhering to all facility and equipment safety procedures.
  • Travel up to 30% to support global manufacturing sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in manufacturing test engineering, automated test development, or sustaining test support within a production environment.
  • Proven experience developing, debugging, or maintaining automated test systems using frameworks such as NI TestStand, LabVIEW, or equivalent.
  • Strong background in troubleshooting electro-mechanical assemblies, including the ability to read and debug electrical schematics and interpret mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience performing root cause analysis (RCA) and driving corrective actions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to define technical requirements and deliver robust automated test solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing test development or automated test system engineering in a High-Volume Manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience testing Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs), including In-Circuit Test (ICT) systems, Flying Probe, and benchtop electrical debugging down to the component level.
  • Familiarity with applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) tools to optimize test automation, enhance failure analysis, or generate manufacturing data insights.
  • Proficiency in test scripting and programming languages, specifically Python, alongside NI LabVIEW/TestStand.
  • Functional expertise in industry-standard quality and reliability tools (e.g., 5-Why, 8D problem solving, Control Plans, and Measurement System Analysis/Gage R&R).
  • Experience managing and collaborating with vendors and Contract Manufacturers (CMs) across multiple sites or international locations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; highly self-motivated with the ability to resolve complex problems independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
  • Maternity and Parental Leave Options
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • 401(k) Plan
  • Sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs)
  • Health insurance (including medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance, and options for Supplemental life plans)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Mental Health Support
  • Medical Advice Line
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage
  • 401(k) matching
  • Parental leave
