Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise tooling technicians, including scheduling, performance management, training, and safety.
- Cook tooling cleaning, preparation, maintenance, and repair activities based on production requirements.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient tooling area.
- Conduct regular tooling status meetings with Production, Process Engineering, and Maintenance teams.
- Manage tooling inventory and ensure accurate tracking of tooling availability and readiness.
- Cook tooling repairs and maintenance with external vendors.
- Track repair timelines, costs, and vendor performance.
- Manage tooling-related spare parts inventory, including seals, bearings, breaker plates, heaters, hardware, and other critical components.
- Maintain accurate records within the CMMS (Ultimo).
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in quality investigations, root cause analysis, Lean initiatives, Kaizen events, and process improvement projects.
- Develop and maintain tooling-related work instructions, specifications, drawings, testing procedures, and technical documentation.
- Lead efforts to digitize tooling records and transition manual processes to electronic systems.
- Research and evaluate new tooling technologies, suppliers, and best practices.
- Troubleshoot tooling failures and collaborate with Production and Process Engineering teams to improve tooling performance.
- Develop internal expertise in extrusion tooling and related technologies.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field. 3+ years of experience in tooling, maintenance, manufacturing, extrusion, metallurgy, or a related environment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience managing tooling maintenance, repairs, and inventory.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High sense of urgency with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
PREFERRED
- Experience with extrusion tooling.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and manufacturing processes.
- Experience using CMMS systems, preferably Ultimo.
- CAD experience, including SolidWorks or similar software.
- Spanish language proficiency.
