About the role

Our components and assemblies are integral to advanced space launch vehicles, commercial and military aircraft, nuclear submarines, critical defense systems, land-based gas turbines, and more.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Shift Supervisor plans and organizes hour-by-hour activities for 2nd Shift manufacturing associates to meet quality, delivery, and cost expectations. This role ensures safe operations, resolves hazards quickly, and maintains active communication with supporting departments and 1st Shift staff.

Responsibilities

  • Follow through on the production plan hour-by-hour, organizing daily activities for manufacturing associates and leveraging Lead personnel to achieve workflow goals.
  • Provide technical support to the production floor by resolving issues as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with daily department schedules to meet consistent shipment deadlines.
  • Monitor, identify, and document run times and process improvements for shop and production.
  • Oversee workflow, direct production, and audit job paperwork (Routings, Log sheets, Process Control Sheets, Work Instructions) for accuracy and conformity.
  • Document workflow, achievements, and notes for 1st shift hand-off.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, and other support areas as production issues arise.
  • Review all jobs prior to final inspection to ensure parts are made to print, properly claimed, and part counts are correct.
  • Ensure operators perform set-ups as required to meet the production schedule.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and ensure subordinates do the same.
  • Support all manufacturing functions, including troubleshooting and problem-solving across production areas.
  • Provide recommendations and periodic updates to management on production status.
  • Utilize reporting and analytics to make data-driven decisions for production needs.
  • Attend trainings, meetings, and participate in continuous improvement programs.

Team Management

  • Hold the shop team accountable to company and operations goals.
  • Participate in union activities, including contract negotiation and grievances.
  • Train and mentor new team members and promote company culture.
  • Delegate job assignments and review workload as necessary.
  • Maintain employee schedules, including approving time-off and staff coverage.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on performance discussions, recruitment, hiring, and terminations.
  • Resolve interpersonal issues and conflicts as they arise.
  • Advocate for a safe and professional work environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED (required).
  • 5+ years of experience in a low-mix/low-volume metal fabrication manufacturing environment (required).
  • 3+ years of experience leading or supervising small groups (Team Leader, Group Leader, Supervisor) (required).
  • Extensive technical knowledge of machine operations (metal forming, machining, welding, general assembly) (preferred).
  • Exposure to advanced safety concepts or Lean Management (preferred).
  • Experience in a union manufacturing environment (preferred but not required).
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • High emotional intelligence for interactions across all levels of the company, clients, and vendors.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn other software.
  • Experience with ERP systems, Epicor preferred.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Effective time management, multitasking, and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated professional capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Regularly required to move, sit, and bend for extended periods.

Schedule

2:30 PM – 10:30 PM daily.
