Manufacturing & Quality Engineering III/IV
About the Role
Sorenson Engineering is seeking a candidate with experience in manufacturing engineering, specializing in CAD/CAM development, CNC programming, and training. This hybrid Manufacturing & Quality Engineering position supports projects and processes of varying complexity, from limited to highly complex tasks, focusing on developing, overseeing, and improving manufacturing processes to ensure exceptional quality for mission-critical precision electrical contacts.
Responsibilities
- Develops manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements, researching, testing, implementing, and improving manufacturing methods.
- Provides engineering support to Manufacturing, including day-to-day problem solving of process deficiencies and product defects, as well as updating process documentation.
- Investigates, collaborates, and diagnoses to resolve production problems.
- Evaluates and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product requirements, material types, part features, machining processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality standards.
- Develops and improves methods for inspection and measurement, including Quality Plans for in-process and final inspection.
- Assures product and process quality by designing inspection methods and fixturing, testing process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
- Applies knowledge of chemical and physical properties of metals, including machinability, and how these processes affect part features such as dimensions, tolerances, and finishes.
- Confers with planning and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Provides troubleshooting support to operations and seeks to maximize quality and efficiency through improvement projects.
- Performs cost and time analysis on manufacturing processes in accordance with process optimization goals.
- Collaborates with team members, operational personnel, and the Technical Director to solve complex manufacturing and quality problems.
- Provides technical expertise to less experienced team members and operational personnel.
Requirements
- Familiar with AS9100 Quality Requirements.
- Knowledge of administrative procedures, including managing paper files and electronic records.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to interpret written and oral instructions.
- Able to work in a team environment to resolve work issues.
- Effective communication skills in English.
Qualifications
- Level I, II, & IV: Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Level III: Minimum of 10 years of appropriate technical experience with Sorenson Engineering.
Physical Demands
- Periodically walk and/or travel to other areas of the plant.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Good eyesight and hand dexterity.
- Able to identify and distinguish colors.
Work Environment
Within safety guidelines, exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, oils/solvents, fumes, and odors that may affect the eyes, ears, nose, throat, and/or skin.
Pay
The expected salary range for this California position is listed in compliance with California law. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
