About the role
The Manufacturing Production Technician contributes to the success of HarbisonWalker International through the safe manufacturing of refractory products. This includes forming, finishing, and packaging refractory products; setting up and operating equipment and machinery to support production processes; and operating transport machinery to deliver materials to presses and finished goods into storage or trailers for shipment. The role also ensures product quality by following established guidelines and maintains a clean, safe work environment while fostering professional relationships with coworkers.
Responsibilities
- Audit and observe the manufacturing process to ensure products meet or exceed quality standards; own Quality Control compliance for assigned work area and maintain appropriate logs.
- Operate and program presses, setters, pickers, scales, and all bearing equipment; off-bear brick from press table to rack cart, kiln car, or pallet; clean loose material and flange before setting in the prescribed manner.
- Operate tram cabs, high lifts, and other transport machinery to deliver materials to presses; operate lift trucks to transport materials throughout the plant.
- Transfer kiln cars; transport racks and/or rack cars to and from presses and ovens; gauge and clean kiln cars.
- Actively demonstrate and promote safety, holding yourself accountable to drive a best-in-industry safety culture.
- Analyze equipment operations, performance, and problems; secure resources to resolve issues quickly and properly.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some manufacturing experience is helpful.
- Previous forklift experience preferred.
- Understanding of basic safety/OSHA standards.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Two to four years of previous machine operating or production-related experience preferred.

- Requires more than two-thirds of the time working near moving mechanical parts and being exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Requires one-third to two-thirds of the time in wet or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold, and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Requires less than one-third of the time in an office setting, in high places, at risk of electrical shock, and near vibration.
Noise
- Requires exposure to very loud noise.
