Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all company policies, safety standards, and Machine Shop procedures
  • Review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and part requirements to determine the appropriate manufacturing method for machined components
  • Select the proper machine tools, work centers, and operation sequence based on part geometry, tolerances, material, machine capability, and shop capacity
  • Create accurate routings and manufacturing methods in the ERP/MRP system, including operation descriptions, work centers, setup times, run times, and outside processing as required
  • Estimate operation times using drawing review, machining knowledge, historical standards, and feedback from shop personnel to support scheduling and cost accuracy
  • Review and update existing routings and methods when drawings change, processes improve, equipment changes, or routing inaccuracies are identified
  • Ensure job documentation, work instructions, and engineering prints are accurate, current, and aligned with routing content issued to the shop floor
  • Partner with Machinists, Supervisors, Programmers, and Engineering to validate routing accuracy, improve manufacturability, and resolve method-related issues
  • Maintain data integrity within ERP/MRP systems for routing, methods, and related manufacturing records
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve routing accuracy, reduce processing time, and standardizing manufacturing methods

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical training or coursework in machining or manufacturing preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment with exposure to routing creation, methods planning, or process definition
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, including milling, turning, drilling, sawing, and secondary operations
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, materials, and technical specifications to determine manufacturing requirements
  • Experience selecting machine types and operation sequences based on part design, tolerance, and process capability
  • Ability to estimate setup and run times with a practical understanding of shop practices, tooling, fixturing, and cycle time drivers
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and production data management, including maintaining routings and manufacturing methods
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate manufacturing data
  • Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies and manufacturing process optimization preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day
  • Frequently required to grasp, handle, and feel objects, control and manage tools, and use hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but at times loud
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
