Manufacturing & Production Engineer - Turbomachines

Creare · Hanover, NH · 1 wk ago
Manufacturing$84k–$130k/yrFull-time

About the role

Creare designs, builds, and fabricates customized, ultra-high-performance turbomachines for aerospace, defense, space exploration, and advanced energy generation. These machines operate at speeds approaching 1 million RPM, power levels from less than 1 W to hundreds of kW, and temperatures from below 10 K to greater than 1200 K. They require ultra-high precision machining in the sub-micron range and often necessitate new fabrication and assembly processes. Our technologies support critical missions such as space exploration, planetary rovers, cryogenic fuel management, and lunar infrastructure.

The Manufacturing Engineering Department supports these projects throughout their full lifecycle—from early design and prototyping through final deliverable hardware. Manufacturing engineers collaborate with R&D teams, machinists, technicians, and QA staff to provide technical guidance, optimize designs for fabrication, and ensure compliance with stringent aerospace requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process plans and procedures, and support manufacturing of precision parts and assemblies
  • Work directly, hands-on with internal resources (machinists, technicians) and external vendors during fabrication, inspection, cleaning, assembly, and testing of turbomachinery hardware
  • Provide input during the design phase to improve manufacturability and ensure requirements are met
  • Consult on design revisions and process changes to advance timelines and improve technical performance
  • Configure, refine, and maintain electronic production management systems
  • Identify opportunities and implement changes to streamline processes
  • Recommend appropriate fabrication methods for specified requirements and production quantities
  • Estimate and manage cost and schedule for fabrication activities and communicate status to project managers
  • Optimize fabrication schedules while considering technical risk and overall timeline
  • Work closely with quality assurance to ensure all project requirements are met and documented

Requirements

  • Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited institution
  • 3+ years of prior production management or manufacturing engineering experience in precision manufacturing, aerospace, or cryogenic hardware environments
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication techniques, mechanical assembly, and technical drawing interpretation
  • Demonstrated team-building and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication skills

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of high-precision fabrication techniques (e.g., CNC machining, wire EDM, precision grinding) and GD&T
  • Experience with supply chain management and ERP software (desirable)
  • Experience with ISO process controls or fabrication of electronic assemblies (a plus)

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package
  • Substantial annual staff bonus
  • Industry-leading 401(k) contributions and plan options
  • Range of medical plan offerings

Pay

Starting salary range of $84,000 – $130,000 per year, based on education level and relevant experience.

U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents only.
