About the role

The Manufacturing Process Engineer III will support production operations by designing, building, and implementing jigs, tooling, and fixtures to meet customer CTF (Cost, Time, Function) metrics. This role focuses on process analysis, tooling creation, and collaboration with production and quality teams to ensure maximum productivity, efficiency, and adherence to quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate production tasks and drawings to meet CTF metrics, creating tools, fixtures, or gauges to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to implement new tools, fixtures, and gauges.
  • Analyze data to identify opportunities for improvements in productivity, quality, material flow, safety, and cost.
  • Prioritize and implement improvement actions, establishing schedules for completion.
  • Lead key Lean initiatives, including Standardized Work Instructions, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen/5S.
  • Conduct time studies and audits to validate and adjust labor estimates.
  • Work with vendors to determine product specifications and evaluate products against quality standards.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams with Engineering, Production, and Estimating to drive efficiencies and eliminate non-value-added activities.
  • Collaborate with design engineering on concurrent engineering efforts to ensure manufacturability.
  • Provide shop floor feedback on product design and manufacturability, updating drawings to improve designs per DFM (Design for Manufacturability).
  • Document and track cost savings and process improvements against targets.
  • Evaluate Quality data and implement improvement activities to meet all quality requirements.
  • Plan and execute facility and work cell layout modifications to optimize material and product flow.
  • Develop, design, justify, and implement production tools and equipment to maximize labor efficiency and reduce total cost.
  • Support the estimating function by providing direct labor and raw material cost estimates.
  • Develop and maintain cost models for various activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as an Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Continuous Improvement Engineer, or related role in a heavy/industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with Fabrication, Welding, and Assembly processes.
  • Experience implementing Lean Processes such as Standardized Work Instructions, 5S, and Process Improvement Initiatives.
  • High proficiency in Blueprint reading and P&ID interpretation.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Good understanding and experience in implementing Lean initiatives.
  • Relevant experience in a make-to-order/engineer-to-order project environment.
  • BS/MS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related engineering field.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience in the development of fixtures and jigs.

Physical Requirements

  • Most work performed at a desk, with some time in a shop environment.
  • Exposure to various elements, though none to a disagreeable extent.
  • Frequent moving of materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and reach.
  • Safety glasses required; earplugs recommended.
  • Ability to stand up to 10 hours a day (with breaks) and up to 6 days a week.
  • Ability to work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
  • Steel-toe boots and hard hat required in the Manufacturing Facility.
