About the role

The Manufacturing Manager 2 oversees all aspects of a large, complex manufacturing facility, including operations, safety, employee development, logistics, and quality. This role collaborates with other prefabrication functions to evaluate new project feasibility, implement changes, and mentor manufacturing leadership locally and across other facilities. All activities align with JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

• Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture, demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through actions and mentoring. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
• Oversees daily operations, ensuring product quality and timeline requirements are met. Implements corrective action when necessary.
• Develops and refines production schedules in response to demand changes, material flows, business needs, and unexpected disruptions (e.g., weather).
• Manages a production team and specialized staff, focusing on employee performance, development, and business efficiency.
• Tracks key performance indicators for production operations, making corrections or recommending improvements as needed.
• Leads meetings, including daily standups and prefabrication group updates.
• Manages inventory of raw materials and supplies to ensure uninterrupted production.
• Develops process improvements across the organization to enhance efficiency and safety.
• Partners with subject matter experts and other prefabrication functions to maintain optimal production metrics.
• Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Utilizes technology to improve production team management and performance.
• Manages a large production department or an entire medium-sized facility.
• Makes decisions impacting operational schedules, including maintenance, raw material allocation, and scheduling.
• Collaborates with leadership to define strategic plans for the next three years.
• Participates in internal and external meetings, addressing concerns and reinforcing client partnerships.
• Uses production forecasting metrics to anticipate demand, aligning schedules and procurement across multiple scopes of work.
• Identifies data metrics needed for production team success and works with cross-functional teams to capture new data.
• Works with leadership to implement team initiatives supporting the larger group’s stated outcomes and key results.

Requirements

• 8+ years of commercial construction, manufacturing, or fabrication shop experience (required).
• 5+ years of people leadership experience (required).
• Bachelor’s degree in management, engineering, or a related field (preferred). In lieu of a degree, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

• Ability to identify common construction materials and shop equipment.
• Knowledge of Lean processes and philosophy.
• Understanding of labor productivity.
• Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
• Knowledge of construction management means and methods.
• Intermediate layout skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of crane flagging and rigging.
• Ability to read and understand plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Ability to assess and optimize project productivity.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate internally and externally.

Working Environment

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
• Maintenance facility environment with potential exposure to varying temperatures, moving equipment, noise, and exhaust fumes.
• May require working overtime as needed.
• May require the use of a respirator.
• Must be comfortable working at projected heights and in narrow workspaces.

Frequent activities: Standing, walking, sitting, viewing a computer screen.

Occasional activities: Bending, climbing, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
