Manufacturing Engineering Co-op - January 4, 2027-July 6, 2027

Co‑op Period

January 4 2027 – July 6 2027 (full‑time, 40 hours per week).

Responsibilities

• Complete web‑based and instructor‑led training on policies, practices, and processes for medical device production.
• Gain hands‑on experience with primary machining processes, including CNC milling, CNC turning, and forming of titanium, stainless steel, and polymer implants.
• Design tooling, work‑holding, and job aids.
• Participate in quality and compliance activities such as non‑conformance investigations and corrective‑and‑preventive actions (CAPA).
• Assist with failure‑mode analysis, scrap analysis, and trend reporting.
• Learn GMP/GXP concepts and introductory FDA, ISO, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Support capital‑investment projects and transformation initiatives as a team member.
• Conduct research, collect data, and generate technical reports.
• Perform financial analysis, develop business cases, and deliver presentations.
• Create CAD models and drafts for 3‑D‑printed and machined tools, fixturing, equipment layouts, and process documentation.
• Support development of new processes and equipment for product launches.
• Coordinate and support equipment and process validation lifecycle activities (computer system validation, safety risk assessment, installation qualification, process risk assessment, operational qualification, performance qualification).
• Author equipment and process standard operating procedures, test protocols, and technical reports.
• Collect and analyze data using statistical methods and software such as Microsoft Excel and Minitab.
• Participate on cross‑functional teams to improve existing processes.
• Support cycle‑time analysis, value‑stream mapping, and capacity analysis to optimize or introduce new equipment.
• Apply Lean/ Six Sigma tools and techniques for testing and analysis.
• Implement Kaizen ideas for process improvements.
• Communicate with internal and external suppliers on various projects and initiatives.
• Engage in plant and product familiarization through independent research, online training, and “Go‑See” activities.
• Shadow Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineers, Engineering Technicians, and Production Operators.
• “Go‑See” groups including Chemical Finishing, Packaging, QA Inspection, Drafting, Document Control, Safety, Maintenance, Tool Room, Gage Calibration, and Shipping/Receiving.

Qualifications

• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (strongly preferred).
• Actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program (no current class enrollment required).
• Reliable daily transportation for the entire co‑op period.
• Ability to work full‑time (40 hours/week) for the duration of the co‑op.
• Completion of sophomore‑level coursework (strongly preferred).
• Highly motivated self‑starter; able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Some past hands‑on experience (job, project, or hobby) is strongly preferred.
• Willingness to work on a fast‑paced manufacturing floor.
• Strong technical writing skills; ability to generate technical documents semi‑independently.
• Effective presentation and communication abilities for varied audiences.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with MS Project, Visio, or Access (preferred but not required).
• Experience with a CAD package (e.g., PTC Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, etc.).
• Introductory knowledge of GD&T (preferred but not required).
• Introductory experience with statistical analysis using Minitab, Excel, etc. (preferred).

Pay

Hourly rate: $16.00 – $32.00, based on qualifications, experience, location, education, market data, and internal equity.
