A snapshot of your day as an integral part of a larger manufacturing team, engaging with the hourly workforce, manufacturing operations, design engineering, and project management to develop and refine processes for steam turbines ranging from a few thousand pounds to over 200 tons. Production cycles through two outage seasons annually, when electrical energy providers service their equipment during low-demand periods. Turbines often arrive with challenging repair needs, requiring your expertise to create tooling and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Apply educational background, intellect, and hands-on experience to unique manufacturing floor problems.
- Develop new tooling and process innovations through experimentation and design forethought.
- Create and issue detailed work instructions to factory floor operations in SAP.
- Standardize processes for future training, reference, and execution of customer orders.
- Engage hands-on with shop floor personnel and equipment.
- Train others in learned and developed processes.
- Estimate manufacturing process durations for labor quoting.
- Challenge the status quo with well-researched ideas that withstand technical debate.
- Prepare geometric layouts of designs using CAD software for tooling and fixturing.
- Interface professionally with Design Engineering and internal/external customers.
- Communicate effectively with weekday team members both verbally and through documented summaries.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (other degrees evaluated for equivalency).
- Practical application of mechanical engineering principles, including physics fundamentals in a manufacturing environment.
- Three or more years of hands-on experience with manufacturing methods: metal working, hand tools, knee mills (Bridport style), benchtop lathes, and clear articulation of tooling experience.
- Proven experience in technical writing to communicate mechanical concepts.
- Established record of collaboration in team environments.
- Ability to interface with hourly workforce to troubleshoot current methods and implement new processes.
- Fluency in CAD package usage (preferably NX or AutoCAD).
- Legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for employer-sponsored work authorization.
Schedule
This role supports weekend operations on a 3x12 shift, Friday through Sunday.
