About the Role
This position plans and conducts work requiring judgment in independent evaluations, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. This requires devising new approaches to problems encountered.
Responsibilities
- Production floor support and process improvement for the assembly of complex, tight-tolerance components using automated assembly equipment, including power and free conveyor systems, robotics, and vision systems.
- Procurement of new equipment to support capacity uplifts and new programs, as well as quoting new business.
- Process ownership of a designated departmental process, ensuring machinery, gaging, quality, tooling, capacity, and documentation are reliable, stable, and sustainable.
- Lead the new product launch team to design manufacturing plans, including operator work content, machine capability, quality checks, and information flow.
- Lead the department planning team for capacity planning and capital forecasting.
- Determine parts, tools, and gaging needed to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications.
- Evaluate machine builders through site visits, demonstrated capability, and financial factors for purchasing new equipment.
- Procure and write purchase requisitions for new machining, assembly, and test equipment; lead machine installation, robotic integration, runoff, and handoff to production.
- Provide ongoing support for equipment post-installation, including modifications for efficiency, capability, and continuous improvement, and troubleshooting safety issues.
- Maintain proper 5S levels within the department.
- Collaborate with production by attending daily meetings and partnering with operational leadership to improve departmental financial metrics.
- Support production and maintenance during machine downtime by troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and coolant systems.
- Address tooling issues by troubleshooting and working with vendors to provide properly designed tooling.
- Support downtime related to quality issues using problem-solving applications like 8D and Six Sigma.
- Plan and design manufacturing processes to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and analyze equipment layout, workflow, and workforce utilization.
- Lead multiple cost-reduction projects and write AR narratives to justify funding.
- Utilize knowledge of GD&T, metrology, metallurgy, and assembly/test processes to provide manufacturability feedback to the product development team.
- Work with design engineers to reduce costs on current and future projects.
- Train manufacturing associates, including team leads and operators.
- Write add-to-stocks to ensure correct spare parts availability.
- Update required documents such as FMEAs, tool sheets, and job instructions.
- Support all manufacturing shifts during the week and weekends, if necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering and experience in the automotive industry preferred.
- 5+ years of experience required.

Safety and Physical Requirements
- Required to work in a production floor environment with heavy machinery and powered industrial trucks.
- May be required to trial manufacturing station operations.
- Must wear PPE in designated areas.
- Occasional lifting up to 35 lbs. shoulder-high.
Travel
Occasionally required, up to 5% of the time.
Pay
Salary range: $92,800 - $127,600
