Manufacturing Engineer II
About the Role
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and safety. This role supports production by implementing cost-effective solutions, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring products are manufactured to meet specifications and customer requirements. The engineer will develop and implement manufacturing processes, ensure documented practices meet quality management system standards, and design assembly processes, tools, fixtures, and equipment. They will also detect and resolve non-conformances, perform root cause analysis, and interface with design engineers, quality engineers, manufacturing personnel, and vendors. The ideal candidate can work under minimal supervision and meet time-sensitive milestones.
Responsibilities
- Develop and release product assembly documentation, including Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Create plans, flow charts, inspection methods, and procedures to ensure products meet quality requirements throughout the lifecycle.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design and manufacturability issues related to production, testing, and shipment.
- Drive corrective and preventive actions in partnership with internal and external parties.
- Generate and deploy trend charts, histograms, and Green Belt tools to monitor process health within the Assembly department.
- Analyze metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Optimize productivity, reduce waste, and enhance quality using methods like Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Value Stream Mapping.
- Design production tools, fixtures, and select equipment for manufacturing.
- Manage fault investigation and troubleshooting of assembly and test equipment.
- Support failure analysis of warranty returns and implement corrective actions.
- Train operators on assembly, test methods, and quality-related procedures.
- Create and deliver product overview presentations to various stakeholders.
- Review engineering and manufacturing change documents to ensure products meet customer requirements.
- Support Design for Manufacturability and Design FMEA efforts.
- Generate and maintain Process FMEAs throughout the product lifecycle.
- Participate in tooling and gage inspection, calibration, and compliance maintenance.
- Collaborate with Supplier Quality Engineering to resolve vendor quality issues.
- Participate in material disposition and non-conforming material identification.
- Assess test equipment needs and develop plans for internal test capabilities.
- Lead/support budget and schedule activities as required.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent field with applicable industry experience.
- 2-4 years of experience in a production/manufacturing environment, preferably assembly.
- Proficiency in CAD and Computer-Aided Engineering software.
- Experience with product/process quality improvement, ISO9001/QMS, data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab), and corrective actions.
- Ability to design and maintain assembly fixtures.
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or ASQ certification preferred.
- Knowledge in optics and holography is a plus.

Schedule
9/80 work schedule (Monday – Friday). Overtime may be required as assigned.
