Roles & Responsibilities
- May act as a liaison between mechanical engineers and machinists, as well as other key members of operations throughout the product development process.
- Supports the development of team members by providing constructive technical feedback.
- Demonstrates the ability to receive and act on constructive feedback.
- Conducts hands-on testing in laboratory or field settings to evaluate the performance, durability, and functionality of systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications.
- Identifies any design flaws during testing and helps refine solutions.
- Identifies areas for improvement in assembly and manufacturing processes.
- Works with senior engineers to implement process changes and improvements.
- Conducts time and motion studies to optimize workflows.
- Ensures manufacturability and ease of assembly in the design process.
- Assists in diagnosing and resolving issues in production lines.
- Provides technical support to the production team to minimize downtime.
- Collections and analyzes process data to monitor performance.
- Uses statistical tools to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for efficiency gains.
- Assists in the training of operators on new processes or equipment.
- Helps monitor product quality throughout the manufacturing process.
- Maintains organized records of design changes, testing results, and engineering decisions for future reference and traceability.
- Prepares engineering documentation such as drawings, root cause/ corrective action documents, and technical reports.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (Mechanical, Manufacturing) or equivalent experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of SolidWorks to design complex systems.
- Ability to conduct and document root cause / corrective action.
- Ability to document test results and write a conclusion statement.
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication and testing.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic understanding of the product development process.
- Basic understanding of GD&T.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality work.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- US Person
- Experience with military standards, specifically MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810.
- Experience with laser systems, night vision/imaging systems, or target location systems.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally, for handling parts and prototypes.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to perform physical tests and handle tools/equipment used for prototyping
