About the Role

This position is primarily responsible for the set-up and operation of various types of machine shop equipment, including manual and CNC Engine Lathes, Bridgeports, and Grinders, to produce complex tools, fixtures, and diversified products in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. The role involves proactive application of expertise in documentation review, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, equipment set-up and operation, and component inspection. The incumbent must comply with company requirements (regulatory, safety, administrative, etc.) and interact effectively with a broad spectrum of people within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machine shop equipment to produce high-tolerance components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, operation/tool/set-up sheets, procedures, ECNs, routers, and other documentation.
• Interpret graphs and data for problem-solving, SPC, and performance metrics monitoring.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing concepts, GT&D practices, and inspection methods.
• Utilize measuring equipment and instruments effectively.
• Conduct root cause investigations and troubleshooting.
• Bring initiatives and activities to closure through effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
• Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures.
• Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment.
• Actively participate in team meetings and improvement initiatives.
• Assist in training personnel on required technical tasks.
• Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems.
• Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
• Ensure the work area is clean, secure, and well-maintained.
• Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.

Requirements

• 5+ years of related experience in set-up and operation of precision (high-tolerance) machine shop equipment (Aerospace manufacturing environment preferred).
• High School Diploma, GED, or Vocational/Technical school equivalent.
• Self-motivated with the ability to analyze, organize, plan, multi-task, and achieve results through effective interaction with others.
• Strong math skills for interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and related documents.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with all levels of personnel.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts, employee training, inspection methods, and performance metrics.
• Creative thinking related to machine shop, inspection, assembly, and test fixture manufacture and design input.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including fluids, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration. This role interacts in both a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment, using standard office equipment and appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., eye, hearing, and foot protection). The temperature of the work environment may be affected by external temperatures and machining processes.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to talk and hear.
• Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly required to stand for 7-8 hours daily, sit, walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, and/or crouch.
• May be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally up to 70 pounds.

Schedule

4-Day Work Week – Monday-Thursday (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM). Overtime and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Pay

$28 - $34/hour, plus a quarterly bonus.

This position is located at our Montville, NJ corporate offices. Many of our contracts require proof of U.S. citizenship and/or an export license for employees who are citizens of certain countries.
