Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end compliance for monthly, quarterly, and other periodic tax filings for: sales tax, use tax, gross receipts taxes, commercial activity taxes, personal property taxes, and other non-income based tax returns.
- Manage the compliance calendars, filing databases and work with our outsourced compliance firm to ensure timely compliance and review for accuracy.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the tax department and business operation teams to field tax technical questions related to indirect taxes related to new or renewal of contracts, review and taxability of services and/or products.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the local tax authorities and agents and the tax department to respond to notice inquiries and audit requests.
- Effectively manage audits with state and local agencies, gathering data and coordinating responses, escalating issues and working towards resolution.
- Proactively research and interpret new regulations or rate changes in various states and localities affecting existing or new filing obligations.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and external service providers to identify process improvements and opportunities for automation.
- Assist with special projects, including system implementations, acquisitions/divestitures, and process documentation.
Qualifications
- 6-10 years of relevant tax compliance and operational tax experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; experience with tax compliance software preferred
- Experience with Vertex, SOVOS, JDE and Workday ERP systems
- Proficient in Alteryx, PowerBI, or other similar Data Analytics software preferred
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset
- Experience with large, multi-jurisdictional entities required
