About the role
Babel Audio is seeking professional voice actors with native-level fluency in standard Mandarin (Putonghua) for a solo voice-performance project. Your recordings will help train AI systems to recognize and express human emotion. This is not simple reading; it is character-driven, interpretive work that requires genuine acting skill and professional vocal delivery. The project is structured to reflect the nature of professional voice-acting engagements.
You will receive scripts and scene briefs, study the emotional context, and deliver performances that are true to the character and moment. Each scene has a specific character and rich emotional layers. Examples include:
- A bride bidding farewell to her family at her wedding, overwhelmed with emotion
- A father holding his newborn child for the first time, overcome with feeling
- A shepherd spotting a wolf in the distance, becoming alert to protect his herd
- A doctor, with a heavy heart, delivering the news of a patient’s passing to their family
- A runner, after years of training, nearing the finish line and filled with emotion
Each recording is under one minute. You select which scripts to take on and work entirely on your own schedule.
Requirements
- Native-level fluency in standard Mandarin (Putonghua)
- Professional background in voice acting, dubbing, narration, audiobook recording, or similar voice-performance work
- Able to deliver natural, expressive, and engaging vocal performances across a variety of styles and emotions
- Comfortable interpreting scene briefs and working independently with minimal direction
Technical Requirements
- External microphone
- Pop filter or windscreen (strongly recommended)
- Quiet, acoustically treated recording environment
- Stable internet connection capable of supporting smooth audio recording and file submission
Pay
$150 USD per recorded hour. Additional performance-based incentives may be available.
Compensation is based on actual recorded audio time for this specific project. Your application may also be considered for other Babel Audio projects, which may carry different rates. Rates vary by country of residency and will be communicated at the time of offer via the Babel Audio dashboard.
