Assists the classroom teacher in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning educational environment. Works under the supervision of the classroom teacher and building principal.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of an instructional program for students with disabilities in an integrated or self-contained setting
• Assist in the preparation of instructional materials
• Assist in the implementation of student IEP goals and objectives
• Supervise and assist students during non-instructional times (lunch, recess, transitions)
• Maintain and document data related to student progress and behavior
• Assist with personal care and health-related needs as required (feeding, toileting, hygiene, mobility)
• Implement behavior management strategies as directed
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities
• Maintain confidentiality of student information

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must meet highly qualified paraprofessional requirements (associate’s degree, 48 college credits, or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment)
• Experience working with children with disabilities preferred
• Ability to lift and assist students with physical needs
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude
• Ability to follow written and oral directions
• Must pass background check
