Managing Veterinarian - New Practice Opening in Burlington

Founded in 2019, we have expanded to locations across the East Coast, including New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Our mission is to provide a sustainable and supportive work environment for veterinarians while delivering a high-quality veterinary experience.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat pets with illnesses and injuries and counsel clients in pet care
  • Directly manage, mentor, and develop a team of 1–5 doctors, fostering engagement and growth
  • Partner with Regional Medical Director and Talent team to recruit, onboard, and retain top-tier veterinary talent
  • Collaborate with Ops on doctor scheduling to ensure clinical coverage
  • Serve as the clinical point of contact for escalated medical questions or concerns
  • Ensure that service accessibility (e.g., surgery slots, doctor coverage) aligns with member needs
  • Uphold Small Door's culture and values to the practice team and to our members
  • Mentor, manage and oversee doctors relating to their clinical skills and individual performance metrics concerning client satisfaction, teamwork, medical quality, record keeping, and production
  • Lead regular check-ins with doctors to understand challenges and support professional development
  • Partner with the Practice Manager to support a positive, collaborative approach between the Member Experience and the Medical Team
  • Collaborate with Nursing Leadership to foster an environment of open communication, continuous learning, improvement, and excellence
  • Monitor practice financial performance and work with leadership to achieve budget targets and revenue goals
  • Manage controlled substances, review practice orders of drugs and supplies, and ensure that the DEA standards are met
  • Ensure compliance with medical protocols (surgery, dental, diagnostics) and regulatory requirements (DEA, OSHA)

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent with an active state and DEA license
  • 5+ years of experience in the field
  • Takes a professional approach, with excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong communicator
  • Committed to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the code of ethics
  • Leader with experience managing a team and interest in mentoring veterinarians
  • Thrives in team-oriented environment
