About the role
TeachMichigan, powered by TFA Detroit, seeks an exceptional leader to shape and continuously strengthen our educator development strategy.
Responsibilities
- Educator Development, Coaching & Proof Point Strategy (50%): Lead TeachMichigan's educator development strategy across the educator continuum, designing and continuously improving coaching systems, learning experiences, leadership development, and educator pathways that strengthen instructional excellence and improve student outcomes.
- Lead the organization's coaching strategy, including coach development, coaching quality, implementation, and continuous improvement to ensure educators receive high-quality, evidence-based support.
- Partner with school and district leaders to align coaching, professional learning, and educator supports to the priorities of proof point schools, strengthening school teams and contributing to measurable gains in student achievement, attendance, and postsecondary readiness.
- Design and facilitate high-impact learning experiences that build educator and leader capacity in instructional excellence, adult learning, leadership, data-informed decision-making, and continuous improvement.
- Leverage educator, coaching, and student outcome data to evaluate impact, strengthen the educator development model, and identify practices that can be scaled across TeachMichigan and partner districts.
- Educator Pathways & Community (30%): Design and strengthen educator pathways that support continued growth from fellowship through alumni leadership, ensuring educators remain connected, developed, and engaged throughout their careers.
- Lead the strategy for Year 3 educators, alumni engagement, leadership pathways, and educator communities that foster belonging, collaboration, wellness, and long-term leadership.
- Partner across teams to strengthen educator retention, leadership opportunities, and long-term engagement within TeachMichigan's statewide movement.
- Build systems and experiences that deepen educator connection while advancing organizational priorities and student outcomes.
- Strategic Initiatives & Regional Priorities (20%): Advance TeachMichigan's 2030 goal by leading and contributing to cross-functional initiatives that strengthen educator development, organizational effectiveness, and statewide impact.
- Partner across program, district partnerships, research and learning, external affairs, development, and operations to ensure educator strategy is aligned, integrated, and responsive to organizational priorities.
- Identify emerging opportunities, partnerships, and innovative practices that strengthen TeachMichigan's educator development model and position the organization for long-term growth and impact.
- Lead or contribute to strategic planning, organizational initiatives, and enterprise-wide priorities that require collaboration beyond the primary scope of the role.
- Contribute leadership and capacity to key regional priorities, including EmpowerEd Weekends, Detroit Summer Learning Institute, fellow selection, strategic planning, retreats, and other organization-wide initiatives as organizational needs evolve.
Requirements
- Previous Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in educator development, instructional leadership, school leadership, district leadership, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success designing and leading educator development, coaching, leadership development, or professional learning strategies that improve educator practice and student outcomes.
- Experience coaching educators, school leaders, or adult learners to achieve measurable growth.
- Experience partnering across schools, districts, and cross-functional teams to lead complex initiatives and build alignment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead with ownership, adaptability, and initiative by proactively solving problems, improving systems, and contributing beyond defined responsibilities to strengthen collective impact.
- Experience using educator, participant, and student outcome data to inform decisions and continuously improve strategy and programming.
- Demonstrated success leading through ambiguity, influencing without authority, and translating strategy into measurable results.
