About the role

Meyer Memorial Trust is one of the largest private funders in Oregon, dedicated to accelerating racial, social, and economic justice for the collective well-being of Oregon’s lands and peoples. Founded in 1982 from the estate of Fred G. Meyer, the Trust has awarded grants and program-related investments exceeding $1 billion to over 3,800 organizations. Meyer stewards an endowment of approximately $1 billion and deploys an annual grantmaking budget of $61 million across various issue-based portfolios and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of long-term investment strategy for Meyer’s endowment.

  • Oversee strategic and tactical asset allocation across public equity, fixed income, private investments, hedge funds and real assets.

  • Evaluate market conditions, portfolio risks and investment opportunities.

  • Conduct scenario planning, liquidity analysis and portfolio stress testing.

  • Ensure investment strategies appropriately balance return objectives, liquidity needs, diversification and risk management.

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities that align financial performance with mission and long-term impact.

  • Monitor portfolio and manager performance relative to benchmarks and strategic objectives.

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the President & CEO and Board of Trustees.

  • Support investment governance, policy development and fiduciary oversight.

  • Foster relationships grounded in trust, transparency and thoughtful decision-making.

  • Lead Meyer’s extension-of-staff investment operating model with external advisors and partners.

  • Oversee operational processes related to investment implementation, liquidity management, portfolio rebalancing and cash management.

  • Ensure timely execution and tracking of investment documentation, subscription materials and agreements.

  • Responsible for oversight of investment technology platforms and vendor relationships in partnership with the investment operations team.

  • Coordinate with custodians, auditors, legal counsel and other partners.

  • Partner with finance leadership to support audit readiness, investment accounting and financial reporting.

  • Maintain strong operational controls and compliance with investment policies and fiduciary standards.

  • Integrate mission alignment, equity, sustainability and long-term stewardship into investment strategy and manager evaluation.

  • Support frameworks for measuring both financial performance and broader impact.

  • Stay informed on emerging trends related to ESG integration, climate investing, equitable investing and responsible stewardship.

  • Operate as an enterprise leader, balancing investment priorities with broader organizational goals and mission commitments.

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership on organizational opportunities, risks and long-term sustainability.

  • Cultivate alignment across diverse stakeholders and collaborate with finance, program, grants management and operations teams.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, learning, collaboration and thoughtful decision-making.

  • Represent Meyer within the institutional investment, philanthropic and mission-investing communities.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible institutional investment experience.

  • Experience managing complex multi-asset class portfolios in foundations, endowments, pension funds, family offices or similar institutional settings.

  • Expertise across public markets, private investments, hedge funds, fixed income and real assets.

  • Strong understanding of asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection, liquidity management and risk oversight.

  • Experience overseeing investment operations and institutional investment infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated success working with stakeholders such as Investment Committees and Board members.

  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative and investment evaluation skills.

  • Fluency and comfort in leveraging technology platforms like Bloomberg, FactSet, Dynamo, Preqin, and others.

  • Experience with alternative investments, private markets and external manager oversight.

  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.

  • Strong relationship-building and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

  • Strategic mindset paired with operational rigor and follow-through.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • MBA, CFA or related advanced credential.

  • Experience with impact investing, ESG integration or mission-aligned investing.

  • Experience working with consultants and/or extension-of-staff investment models.

  • Experience within philanthropic or nonprofit institutions.
