About the Role
The Manager Trainee is a full-time, entry-level position designed to prepare you for a leadership role within 84 Lumber. This role offers hands-on training across all aspects of store operations with the goal of promotion to a management position within 6-12 months, which can lead to up to a 40% increase in annual pay. Many Manager Trainees progress to General Manager roles within 3-4 years. No prior experience is required—just dedication and a willingness to learn. Manager Trainees must complete the learning plan and course of study as outlined and be willing to relocate for a management position.
Responsibilities
- Support customers and drive sales in a retail store environment.
- Oversee material and supply chain flow, stock, and merchandising.
- Create material estimates for building projects through blueprint reading and estimation.
- Operate forklifts and handle materials safely (certification provided).
- Manage payroll, invoicing, inventory, and financial analysis.
- Interpret and analyze common financial reports.
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints.
- Enhance skills in Microsoft Office Suite through a comprehensive training program.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Full-time availability (48+ hours/week, including overtime).
- Willingness to relocate for a management position.
Work Environment
This role involves working in both indoor and outdoor settings, assisting customers in all weather conditions (wet, humid, hot, or cold). Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 80 pounds) are required, along with exposure to machinery and airborne particles.

Pay
$47,000–$52,000 annually, with potential for up to a 40% increase upon promotion to a management position.
