Manager, Technology Transfer & Post-Award Compliance

Responsibilities

  • Manage and advance NYBCe technology transfer function and enterprise intellectual property portfolio.
    • Advise on technical merit, patentability, commercial potential, competitive landscape, and practical utility.
    • Develop patent and commercialization strategies, negotiate technology-related agreements, and build scalable technology transfer practices.
    • Evaluate inventions, develop technology development and commercialization plans, and identify potential licensees, collaborators, and investors.
    • Maintain and manage the NYBCe enterprise patent and technology portfolio docket, including tracking deadlines, maintenance, and annuity decisions.
    • Organize and lead key portfolio, licensing, and commercialization meetings; prepare clear recommendations and status reports for senior stakeholders.
    • Provide operational continuity across the technology transfer function.
  • Support award setup and account establishment upon Notice of Award (NoA).
    • Monitor award burn rates, budget-to-actuals, and financial projections.
    • Support cost transfers, rebudgeting requests, no-cost extensions, and other post-award modifications.
    • Affirm compliance monitoring and timely submission of required reporting, including FFRs, RPPRs, and property/equipment reporting.
    • Assist with subrecipient monitoring, risk assessment, sponsor prior-approval requests, and drawdown/invoicing coordination.
    • Help maintain audit-ready documentation for institutional, federal, and state oversight, and support OSP during federal audits and sponsor site visits.
    • Perform other duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Research Administration, Business, Public Health, or related field.
  • Experience: Five or more years of progressive experience in technology transfer, intellectual property management, licensing, commercialization, business development, sponsored programs administration.
  • Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of technology transfer, patent practices, patent portfolio management, licensing, commercialization, and biomedical product development.
  • Skills: Strong scientific, analytical, interpersonal, negotiation, and project management skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate clearly and with authority; ability to build trust with inventors and internal stakeholders; ability to manage multiple projects of varying complexity; strong attention to detail, sound judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; ability to identify operational gaps and implement scalable solutions.
