Position Summary
Within a team framework, coordinates tax functions for the Covenant Health system entities, including but not limited to reporting, analysis, research, monitoring, and compliance. Responsible for developing and implementing tools to effectively and efficiently capture and report various tax data. Contributes information to management to facilitate strategy and decision making regarding government regulated financial matters.
Areas of Responsibility
- Federal tax (for-profit, tax exempt, and benefit plans)
- State tax (Franchise and Excise, sales tax, and business tax)
- Local tax (property tax)
- Others as identified
Coordination
- Filing of all required tax reports
- Develops annual work plan that maximizes effectiveness and efficiency of current staff
- Reviews work performed by tax staff, providing constructive feedback and education as appropriate
- Develops staff evaluations, retention efforts, training, and other management functions
- Coordination of tax reviews and audits (external and internal)
Compliance and Reporting
- Coordinates with Department Director to develop annual work plan
- Ensures compliance and proper reporting through monitoring regulatory changes and communicating significant information to system leadership
- Participates in strategic planning, process improvements, and innovation
- Develops and implements short and long-range plans for department operations and improvements
Education and Experience
- Master’s of Business, Accounting, or Finance or CPA license (or 15 years of related experience in lieu of degree)
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience
Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff and regulators
- Management of multiple concurrent projects, maintaining predetermined schedule
- Extensive knowledge of healthcare related financial accounting principles
- Processing and organizing large quantities of data
- Solid leadership, motivation, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
