Overview
The Manager, Supply Chain serves in a critical role in a rapidly growing electric utility serving Northern Virginia. This includes procurement support for electric infrastructure that serves major parts of the largest data center market in the world.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, vendors, and peer electric utilities to ensure optimal communications, best practices, and source selection while continuously scouting to enhance and grow those relations and knowledge.
- Overall management and oversight of company and third-party warehouse facilities.
- Captures and develops procurement strategies for new and expanding existing substation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure facilities.
- Manages internal/external supply chain activities including appropriate levels of effort in procurement, sourcing, selection, inventory management, and logistics to ensure timely availability of materials, equipment, and resources to support corporate and organizational requirements.
- Oversees and maintains ERP systems relative to procurement and inventory management, including bar code technology.
- Ensures these systems are appropriately scaled to meet and exceed organizational requirements in accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Analyzes, calculates, controls, monitors, and manages over 2,000 category A, B, and C stock and non-stock transmission, substation, and distribution electric utility items to meet engineering, planning & construction requirements, and short-range plans.
- Maintains system stock keeping unit inventory levels via daily reorder advice reports, updating associated reorder points predicated on system demand and changing economic conditions.
- Monitors, grades, and analyzes supplier performance for transmission, substation, and distribution electrical suppliers and performs appropriate vendor audits and relations.
- Plans and reviews department activities including capital and operating budgets, costs, operations, and data forecasting to achieve measurable results to goals and objectives.
- Provides expert knowledge and awareness on strategic relationships with manufacturers, manufacturer representatives, equipment providers, industry peers, and internal staff.
- Establishes and maintains systems and controls, which verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, and enhance the Company’s value.
- Directs others to perform quotation analysis and order placement for transmission, substation, and distribution electric utility materials, MROs (materials, repairs, operating supplies) to support organizational and electric system expansion and maintenance requirements.
- Manages all corporate procurement through vendor negotiations and helps establish and maintain relevant policies and procedures.
- Implements major materials consignment and vendor stocking agreements with manufacturers and vendors. Monitors, coordinates, and administers material stocking and inventory processes.
- Monitors, supervises, analyzes, and prepares reports for procurement and inventory control and provides report data to accounting to reconcile to the general ledger.
- Works continually towards self-development to stay current on supply chain management, s, and procurement procedures and practices.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field from an accredited institution is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7-10 years of related experience and/or training including management of programs and people is required.
- Experience with the management of electric utility purchasing, materials, logistics, and supply chain management is required.
- Direct administrative involvement in electric utility materials applications and requirements planning, procurement process standards and practices, and infrastructure is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Functional/Operational: Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team. Demonstrated knowledge of company policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and mathematical skills as well as all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Demonstrated proficiency with general computer operation, Microsoft Office applications, and other procurement and business ERP systems. Ability to anticipate and meet rapidly changing customer and business needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational direction. Apply and maintain a working knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and specifications used in electrical systems. Apply analytical methodology to problem-solving and decision-making and relate theoretical and/or technical concepts to practical application.
- Strategic/Managerial: A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others. Ability to develop and motivate a team. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities. Ability to think ahead and plan over a short and long-term focus. Knowledge of human resources administration to manage employees’ work, conduct performance reviews, develop goals and objectives, and assure compliance with policies and procedures.
