Department: University Housing and the Resident Experience (UHRE), Division of Student Affairs – Belknap Campus

Full-time, exempt position (37.5-hour workweek) with occasional evening, weekend, and overnight travel requirements. Flexible hours and remote work may be considered based on job responsibilities and business needs.

About the Role

The Manager, Student Housing aligns departmental messaging and operational strategy with University priorities and student needs. This position sets the direction for integrated digital engagement, provides leadership in operational planning, and fosters cross-unit collaboration. The Manager oversees the assignments and billing team, social media strategy, marketing and communication execution, and overall operational effectiveness, with a focus on building efficient reports and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

  • Assignments and Billing
    • Direct the daily operations of the Assignments and Billing unit.
    • Provide training and support to direct reports and oversee student staff management.
    • Collaborate with the Director to create annual occupancy management plans, coordinate room selection, assignment, retention, and billing for all residents, including special populations (e.g., student athletes, Living-Learning and Themed communities, ADA/ESA accommodations).
    • Coordinate the first- and second-year live-on exemption process, move-in timeslots, and the student appeals process for residency exemptions and license releases.
    • Track, analyze, and forecast occupancy and billing trends; provide reports to inform departmental strategy.
    • Coordinate the compilation, review, and dissemination of routine and ad-hoc reports for decision-making.
  • Messaging
    • Set the vision and provide strategic oversight for departmental marketing and communication, ensuring alignment with University branding standards and enrollment goals.
    • Oversee content strategy and brand implementation across web, print, email, and social media platforms, ensuring accessibility and strategic alignment.
    • Orchestrate collaborative initiatives with University partners (e.g., Office of Admissions, Student Success Center, Office of Communications and Marketing).
    • Benchmark marketing trends and adjust strategies to remain competitive in the higher education housing landscape.
  • Cross-Unit Collaboration
    • Administer the fall resident move-in experience.
    • Provide leadership for major UHRE events, including logistics, signage, service design, and stakeholder engagement.
    • Identify areas for operational improvement and lead the implementation of scalable, student-centered solutions.
  • Website, Digital Tools, and Communication Systems
    • Provide leadership for the department’s web presence, ensuring it remains student-centered, accessible, and current.
    • Partner with IT and internal units to maximize integration and effectiveness of tools like StarRez and Monday.com.
    • Support department-wide communication workflows, including email templates and messaging for high-volume processes.
  • Organizational Leadership & Campus Partnerships
    • Support the development and implementation of internal communication protocols, policy updates, and student experience initiatives.
    • Represent the department on university-wide committees, emergency planning teams, and cross-functional initiatives.
    • Advocate for consistency, transparency, and equity in messaging and decision-making across department units.
  • Supervision & Team Development
    • Directly supervise four professional staff and provide strategic direction to managers overseeing student staff.
    • Coach, mentor, and evaluate the assignments and communications teams to maximize capacity, innovation, and growth.
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Assist with annual planning, reporting, and departmental assessment initiatives.
    • Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and four (4) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in communications, higher education administration, marketing, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in housing operations, marketing, or strategic communications.
  • Two (2) years of professional or student staff supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated success in communications strategy, project management, and cross-functional leadership.
  • Experience supporting large-scale logistical or operational initiatives.
  • Experience in university housing or student affairs.
  • Proficiency with communication and project software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sprout Social, StarRez, Canva, and Monday.com.
  • Experience developing training programs, customer service standards, or large-scale service improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with policy implementation or strategic planning in higher education.
