About the Role

GEICO is seeking an experienced Manager, Commercial Insurance Engineering with a passion for building high-performance applications and platforms with generative AI capabilities. You will build and manage a team of engineers with a deep focus on delivering Commercial Insurance products to operate in a highly performant and efficient way. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Our Manager is an engineering leader who works with the engineering staff to innovate and build new engineering solutions, improve and enhance existing solutions, as well as leverage engineering solutions to solve critical operational problems. A Manager will lead execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional technical expertise, with a strong ability to enhance application performance, improve user experience, and drive efficient test automation. Additionally, they demonstrate a curious and nuanced understanding of commercial insurance concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of 5+ engineers to deliver high-performance applications and platforms with generative AI capabilities.
  • Drive the execution of a technical roadmap to increase product delivery velocity and unlock new engineering capabilities.
  • Innovate and build new engineering solutions, as well as improve existing ones.
  • Enhance application performance, user experience, and test automation.
  • Solve critical operational problems using engineering solutions.
  • Prioritize and drive results based on business value to the organization.
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership, technical, and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Proven management experience leading teams of 5+ engineers.
  • Strong background in delivering digital (web and/or mobile) products at scale.
  • Fluency with at least one modern language such as Python or Java, and experience with open-source software.
  • Strong Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) platform knowledge.
  • Proficiency in project management and work item management tools such as GitHub and Azure DevOps.
  • Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science concepts.
  • Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.
  • Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines and build and release practices in commercial insurance.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including software development lifecycle best practices.
  • 5+ years of development in a large-scale, mission-critical environment.
  • 5+ years of hands-on work experience supervising personnel in a technical environment.
  • 2+ years' experience with automated testing including Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to learn technical concepts quickly and adapt to new technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

Annual Salary: $120,000.00 - $300,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
