Manager, Software Engineering
About the role
This role sits with the DCL SEAS team and leads a software engineering team responsible for the design, delivery, and operation of critical Disney Cruise Line and Adventures by Disney platforms, with primary focus on the Seaware ecosystem and its integrations.
Responsibilities
- Build, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering growth, accountability, and technical excellence
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of platform capabilities, including prioritization, development, release, and continuous improvement
- Establish and drive engineering and operational priorities, ensuring alignment with business goals, timelines, and platform stability
- Partner with SE, SRE, and database teams to implement and operationalize platform standards for scalability, resiliency, performance, and disaster recovery
- Drive service reliability and operational excellence, including incident response, root cause analysis, observability, and performance monitoring through defined KPIs and SLAs
- Oversee SEAS change and release management, including cross-functional readiness, impact planning, and successful execution of platform releases
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure alignment with enterprise security, compliance, and risk management standards
- Drive adoption of automation, AI, modern engineering practices, and observability tools to improve system efficiency and insight
- Partner with product, business, and finance stakeholders to align solutions with operational workflows and business outcomes, translating between business and technical domains as needed
- Oversee vendor relationships and managed services, ensuring accountability and alignment with platform objectives
- Contribute to technology strategy, modernization efforts, and investment prioritization across the platform portfolio
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or technology leadership
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, and develop teams
- Proven experience owning or supporting large-scale, high-throughput enterprise systems in complex environments
- Strong understanding of application architecture, APIs, integrations, databases, and distributed systems
- Experience troubleshooting complex issues across multiple application layers (system configuration, services, middleware, data)
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Splunk, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders and drive alignment
- Strong understanding of security, data protection, and compliance principles in enterprise systems
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts (Oracle preferred), including the ability to partner effectively with database engineering teams and oversee resolution of complex data and performance issues
Skills
- Experience supporting Seaware or similar reservation, hospitality, or travel platforms
- Understanding of business workflows, product configuration, and operational usage patterns within travel or commerce platforms
- Experience with vendor-supported platforms and third-party integrations
- Experience with event-driven architectures and enterprise integration patterns
Benefits
The hiring range for this position in Orlando, FL is $163,400.00-$219,100.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
