About the role
The Manager, Security is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, volunteers, staff, and physicians. This role ensures the protection of assets and enforces applicable rules and physical security requirements, implementing the facility's philosophy, goals, and objectives. The Security Manager maintains efficiency and knowledge in security practices, equipment, and training for healthcare facilities while ensuring compliance with governing jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- Deploys and monitors security staff to patrol campus buildings and premises to ensure safety.
- Responds to emergencies or incidents on the grounds or in the facility.
- Assists the Director of Security with day-to-day operations, including maintaining timekeeping records.
- Works with other managers to evaluate Environment of Care (EC) management plans annually.
- Actively participates in the safety process as a member of the Environment of Care Committee.
- Reviews incident reports compiled by security staff to verify completeness.
- Participates in developing safety policies and procedures.
- Manages daily operations, including financial objectives, budget, and growth targets.
- Oversees security employee outcomes through recruiting, training, scheduling, coaching, and performance reviews.
- Trains staff on de-escalation techniques and security procedures.
- Communicates security needs and plans with department leadership.
- Creates a service culture focused on patient and customer satisfaction.
- Maintains regular attendance and complies with all policies and standards.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Supervision and Staff Management: Provides leadership, mentorship, and professional development for staff. Schedules employees, conducts performance evaluations, and consults with the Director on staffing issues.
- Strategic Planning and Financial Oversight: Develops and manages the departmental budget, monitors expenditures, and implements new technologies to enhance efficiency.
- Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with regulatory bodies, oversees accreditation processes, and participates in audits and inspections.
- Collaboration and Communication: Works closely with leadership teams to improve service delivery and stays updated on industry advancements and regulatory changes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or four (4) plus years of direct experience in lieu of a degree.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in a closely related field.
- 2-4 years of previous leadership experience preferred.
- 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare or hospital setting preferred.

Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License in the state of employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI).
- Nonviolent Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI) Training completed within 30 days of hire.
- IAHSS – Certification as a Security Officer or Facility Security Officer preferred.
- State-Specific Requirements:
- Alaska: Security Guard License required.
- Georgia: Completion of a 24-hour Basic Security Officer Training program approved by the Georgia Board of Private Detective & Security Agencies and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required.
- Tennessee: Security Guard License required.
