Responsibilities
- Own the architecture, technical roadmap, and engineering strategy for the Salesforce platform.
- Drive the design and implementation of scalable solutions across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, and related products.
- Establish and enforce best practices for Apex development, Lightning Web Components, integrations, and declarative configuration.
- Lead technical design reviews, code reviews, and architectural decisions.
- Oversee CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies, and release management for the Salesforce org.
- Ensure security, compliance, performance, scalability, and data governance standards are upheld.
- Make build vs. buy vs. configure decisions and guide the team through trade-offs.
- Stay current on the Salesforce ecosystem, evaluate new features and AppExchange tools, and bring forward innovations that benefit the business.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing, cohesive team of Salesforce developers, administrators, and engineers across geographies and time zones.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations.
- Recruit and hire top engineering talent, and establish onboarding and documentation practices that help new team members ramp quickly.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, psychological safety, and continuous learning.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring, team practices, and day-to-day interactions.
- Drive team rituals such as standups, retrospectives, demos, and knowledge shares that strengthen alignment and engagement.
- Recognize and celebrate wins, and create space for the team to learn from setbacks.
QA Oversight
- Provide leadership and direction over QA activities supporting the Salesforce platform.
- Partner with QA engineers, or a partnering QA team, to ensure appropriate test coverage across unit, integration, regression, and UAT.
- Champion test automation and shift-left practices within the engineering team.
- Set quality expectations, review key quality metrics, and drive continuous improvement in release reliability.
- Ensure root cause analysis is performed on production issues and preventative measures are implemented.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Sales Ops, Revenue Ops, Marketing, and Customer Support to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Manage project priorities, timelines, and resource allocation across competing demands.
- Advocate for the engineering team's needs and represent their work to the broader organization.
Vendor, Offshore & Partner Management
- Manage a blended workforce of FTEs, onshore contractors, and offshore vendor pods; set clear SLAs, throughput expectations, and quality bars for every pod.
- Participate in vendor selection, statement-of-work scoping, and ongoing performance governance; hold partners accountable to commitments.
- Drive knowledge transfer, documentation, and process maturity so that work is portable across pods and not locked into individuals.
- Optimize the onshore/offshore mix to hit velocity and cost targets without compromising quality or security.
