Main Responsibilities

  • Develop Safety Initiatives, & Training
    • Facilitate numerous safety initiatives, across multiple locations each with differing characteristics, commodities (incl. Dangerous goods) and risk exposures to drive safety performance and support Regions/Functions
    • Monitor adherence to safety and compliance standards (including federal and state/provincial jurisdictional requirements)
    • Analyze safety data to identify trends, exposures or opportunities
    • Drive and participate in Integrated Audits (Safety and Rules Compliance) and reports
    • Provide information to Chief Operating Officer, Vice President Safety and other Senior Executive relative to safety performance
  • Manage projects through to completion and implementation in the field
  • Ensure integrity in reporting of all Corporate Safety data through monitoring and auditing of safety performance data
  • Manage and oversee quality of safety engagements for the Transload and Dock operations (~300 employees across ~30 locations throughout North America)
  • Develop and conduct safety training tailored to locational requirements

System Safety Liaison

  • Participate quarterly with Safety and Health Committees

Qualifications

  • Experience Operation Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant field experience
  • Experience with emergency response/spill response
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in management of professional consultants
  • Experience contaminated sites management
  • Experience in operating and capital budget forecasting, planning and management
  • Experience with Railway Operating Rules
  • Engineering Degree or Bachelor of Science degree with a preference for Environmental Science or Environmental
  • Education/Certification/Designation: Safety Industrial Hygiene Certification
  • Competencies: Follow safety procedures, information security instructions and ESC principles to lead by example; Address risks in a timely manner to eliminate them; Improve processes on a continuous basis to enhance safety, security and to reduce CN's environmental footprint; Influence others with impactful communications and adapt well to its audience; Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to enable higher productivity; Apply analytical thinking to make recommendations that pursue sustainable performance; Innovate to create value, without compromising on safety
  • Technical Skills/Knowledge: Project management; Strong capability to prepare reports, procedures, standards, etc.; Ability to use CN systems to extract safety data to identify safety trends, including SAP, Business Warehouse; Knowledge in technical safety; Ability to interpret safety reporting criteria as defined by FRA reporting guide; Able to produce quality and timely data reports; Strong knowledge of Excel; Knowledge of Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulation; Involvement in a safety committee
