Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and support to nursing staff by promoting a positive, professional working environment.
- Serve as a clinical resource for staff and role model for excellence in patient care, assisting with admissions, discharges, and clinical tasks, fills in as a staff RN if needed.
- Cook up the allocation of unit resources and nursing staff to operate within budget.
- Aids in the development of staff schedule in accordance with patient acuity, census, and budget, assuring daily staffing and acuity requirements are met.
- Consistently works to meet Value Based Purchasing measure goals to include Outcome Measures, Patient Experience, and Safety Measures.
- Delegates patient care activities to unit and ancillary staff. Assigns additional duties as appropriate.
- Aids in the interviewing and hiring staff for the patient care unit; cultivating an atmosphere that promotes recruitment, retention and employee reward and recognition.
- Aids in ensuring staff are current with competencies and annual training.
- Serves as an effective coach in recognizing and supporting individual team member strengths and talents.
- Assists with the creation of an environment in which team members hold each other accountable in provision of excellent patient care.
- Aids in the creation of input regarding employee evaluations. Applies corrective action as needed.
- Works with the Staffing / Supervisor Office to coordinate admissions to the floor. Assigns beds to patients who are being admitted or transferred to the Unit.
- Addresses workflow issues as appropriate to ensure patients are placed promptly. Continually works to ensure that patients move smoothly through the hospital.
- Conducts daily rounds with patients and families on the unit to identify and address patient care issues. Has knowledge of patients on the nursing unit and their clinical conditions. Communicates effectively with patients and family members regarding plan of care.
- Investigates and follows up on concerns according to hospital policy.
- Consistently works to meet patient satisfaction (HCAHPS) goals by promoting, monitoring, and evaluating staff’s utilization of evidence-based behaviors.
- Makes sure Occurrence Reports are monitored and followed up on ensuring investigation of Patient Safety Events are reviewed, investigated, and completed according to policy.
- Participates in quality management activities and conducts regular audits of nursing documentation.
- Demonstrates pro-activity in dealing with unit problems, keeping Director informed about issues and problems impacting the work area.
- Manages self effectively in emotionally charged situations.
- Follows through on commitments and agreements.
- Develops collaborative relationships within the organization.
- Is consistently visible and accessible to staff.
- Affirms and assists with a 24-hour shared responsibility, authority and accountability for staffing, management, patient care, and service operation, serving as a role model for excellence in patient care.
Qualifications
- Education: BSN or Bachelors degree in related field.
- Certification: BLS and ACLS through the American Heart Association, PALS.
- Licensure: AZ RN.
Preferences
- Education: MSN.
- Experience: Prior leadership experience.
Special Position Requirements
- Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
Work Requirements
- Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs.
- Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
- Able to sit for 3-5 hours per day.
- Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day.
- Able to walk for 3-5 hours day.
