About the Role

Global Banking and Markets (GBM) is a leading Canadian Capital Markets and Investment Banking business with a growing platform in the US and Latin America, operating globally for over 100 years. Scotiabank’s strong U.S. presence provides clients an important bridge to this key global market for trade and investment flows across the Americas and the world. GBM offers a full range of investment banking, credit, and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of clients, including debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious metals. The role contributes to the overall success of the U.S. Finance Department, ensuring individual and departmental goals, plans, and initiatives are executed in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives within the U.S. and globally.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare regulatory reports in accordance with US GAAP and reporting instructions covering daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (e.g., FR2900, FFIEC 002, Borrower-In-Custody (BIC), TIC reports).
  • Perform thorough review of regulatory reports to ensure compliance with reporting instructions and proper controls.
  • Utilize the reporting tool (Axiom) to produce regulatory filings and document/monitor issues related to system/data quality.
  • Drive accountability for accuracy of Critical Data Elements (CDEs) used for Regulatory Reporting and conduct root cause analysis for resolution.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across business and functional areas (e.g., AXIOM Project team, Data Governance, Operations, Treasury, Credit Risk, Product Control, IT) to interpret, operationalize, and implement new reporting requirements and resolve issues.
  • Participate in end-to-end testing for AXIOM BAU releases.
  • Prepare and coordinate information for Internal Audit, Quality Assurance Internal Control, and external Fed Exams, and implement process/control improvements based on testing results.
  • Create, update, and maintain Policies & Procedures, process flows, and risk control matrices.
  • Assist in data collection for regulatory reporting metrics for dashboards and prepare presentation decks for internal stakeholders.
  • Develop/update training materials and conduct training as necessary.
  • Attend required Finance, U.S. GAAP/IFRS, Regulatory, and Compliance training.
  • Respond promptly to ad-hoc regulatory requests while ensuring other deliverables are met.
  • Exercise initiative, independent judgment, and self-direction in meeting objectives and solving problems.
  • Contribute to other projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong accounting knowledge and comprehension of U.S. GAAP accounting rules/instructions.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial and regulatory reporting at a large and complex banking organization or consulting firm.
  • Proficient PC skills, especially in MS Office Suite; intermediate to advanced Excel skills are required.
  • Experience with AXIOM or similar reporting tools is an asset.
  • Understanding of banking and capital markets business is a plus.
  • Strong work ethics with a proactive attitude and high level of accountability.
  • Quick learner with demonstrated curiosity and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills for senior management.
