About the role
The Manager, Product & Analytics leads the MPL data analytics team, owning team delivery, people development, and stakeholder relationships. This role is responsible for hiring, coaching, and developing data analysts; setting priorities and managing the intake of analytics requests; and ensuring the team delivers high‑quality, timely analytical solutions that support business objectives. It also oversees operational initiatives for the MPL Product and Analytics department.
Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the analytics strategy and multi‑year roadmap in alignment with MPL priorities.
- Own the intake and prioritization process, balancing business value, urgency, risk, and team capacity.
- Oversee analytics initiatives from problem definition and requirements through delivery, adoption, and outcome measurement.
- Establish delivery standards and ensure timely, accurate, and actionable reporting and analytical solutions.
- Oversee data sourcing and access strategy in partnership with IT, data owners, and business teams.
- Own data quality, governance, privacy, security, regulatory compliance, and responsible data‑use practices.
- Set technical standards and tooling direction for reporting, statistical analysis, modeling, and visualization.
- Champion automation, reusable solutions, and self‑service analytics to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Hire, coach, and develop data analysts; set performance expectations and support career progression.
- Manage workload, capacity, resourcing, and team operating rhythms to sustain reliable delivery.
- Represent analytics with senior and executive leaders and build strong cross‑functional partnerships.
- Lead and manage operational initiatives and projects for the MPL Product & Analytics department.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers to provide data‑driven insights and tools for managing product P&Ls.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in analytics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, business, actuarial science, or a related field (preferred).
- 7+ years of analytics or reporting experience, including 2+ years leading, coaching, or mentoring teams.
- US work authorization required; Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Skills
- Advanced proficiency with SQL, DAX, Microsoft analytics tools, BI platforms, and data visualization.
- Working knowledge of Python or R, statistical methods, predictive modeling, and modern analytics practices.
- Demonstrated success managing analytics portfolios, priorities, projects, and resources.
- Excellent problem‑solving, executive communication, stakeholder management, and change‑leadership abilities.
- Knowledge of data governance and insurance operations; personal lines experience preferred.
