About the role

Goddard is seeking a highly motivated Manager & Principal Electrical Engineer to join the electrical engineering team designing state-of-the-art medical devices and robotic systems. This is a player-coach role, you’ll lead a small team internally while also staying hands-on and driving engineering excellence in your own client work. You’ll be expected to lead by example, uphold our high standards, and continuously refine your skills to deliver outstanding results across all responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded systems including hardware schematics, PCB layouts, and firmware.
  • Lead architecture decisions for embedded platforms and ensure scalability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, software, and systems engineers.
  • Conduct design reviews, testing, and validation of embedded systems.
  • Optimize power consumption, performance, and cost of embedded solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and debug hardware and firmware issues.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Lead technical projects from concept to commercialization, including designing, prototyping, testing, and implementing electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with external partners, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to ensure successful product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate issues and solutions to both internal and external customers.
  • Support the director and business development in the creation of quotes for new projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field with 10+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD) and circuit simulation software (e.g., SPICE).
  • Experience with microcontrollers (ARM Cortex, STM32, PIC, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of digital and analog circuit design.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Experience with debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG.
  • Previous experience in product development
  • Experience in medical and life sciences with 60601 and/or 61010 or other regulated industry is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug electronic circuits.

Pay

The pay range for this role is: 150,000 - 170,000 USD per year (Wilmington Office)
