Primary Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of the position is to manage the plant engineering function as directed.
Essential Responsible Areas
- Maintains a safe and secure work environment by correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating safety meetings, conducting inspections, and investigating accidents.
- Supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of the food safety system.
- Directs and coordinates plant engineering activities with the group office.
- Establishes and monitors tooling control and change control systems, estimates budgets, and prepares AFEs for plant projects.
- Directs communication with group engineering to ensure timely transmission of new developments and establishment of approved or standardized methods.
- Establishes and maintains control over maintenance and tooling inventories.
- Directs information flow to relevant personnel within the plant and the group.
- Directs necessary contacts with state and local agencies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Directs and manages projects related to equipment and building modifications/repair.
- Affords assistance to the plant environmental manager to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintains utility cost efficiency and implements conservation measures.
- Maintains a clean and safe facility.
- Maintains positive relations with local bargaining units to enhance productivity.
- May explore ways to reduce spoilage in various areas.
- Maintains an effective telecommunications environment, including telephone systems, wiring, and computerized business exchange equipment.
- Prepares bid packages, negotiates contracts, and supervises contractor/vendor work.
- Establishes and follows SOPs for the area of responsibility.
- Maintains an employee relations climate that discourages third-party interference or promotes achievement of plant and company goals.
- Maintains effective work relationships within the department, division, group, and company.
- Works flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as needed.
- Maintains awareness and complies with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements.
- Communicates with the emergency coordinator or Environmental Focal Point/Environmental Manager regarding environmental management activities.
- Understands and responds effectively to emergency procedures, equipment, and systems.
- Maintains environmental documentation as required.
- Complies with established job safety practices, policies, and procedures.
- Recognizes and minimizes waste generation through prudent material use and proper disposal.
- Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes.
Position Requirement & Competencies
- Professional & Education Qualification:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- 5+ years experience in a managerial role in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
- 5+ years experience in engineering/maintenance in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
- Oregon General Supervising Electrician License preferred.
- Skills:
- Ability to apply intensive and diversified evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard plant engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner.
- Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
- Ability to negotiate with contractors for facilities/buildings maintenance.
- Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of engineering principles, practices, nomenclature, and procedures.
- Company policies, procedures, and products.
- Generally accepted managerial practices and procedures.
- Business principles, legal practices, customer needs and expectations.
- Follows company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Corporation manuals.
- Other Requirements:
- Works in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Exposed to occupational hazards, including high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc.
- Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected hiring salary range is $115,000 - $164,300, determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
This role is eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
