Manager of Transmission Line Engineering

About the role

The successful candidate will serve as a Supervisor and Engineering Lead on high voltage electric transmission line design projects of overhead and underground systems for some of the largest utilities in the country as well as regional utilities. The position provides the opportunity for you to develop an engineering team with direct report responsibilities. While also being accountable for managing client relations, proposal development, scope creation, and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Apply NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and other applicable standards in the engineering and design of all types of capital and maintenance projects from 34.5 kV to 765 kV.
  • Perform engineering analyses, prepare bidding documents, plans, and specifications, and prepare material procurement and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with project planning, environmental, permitting, and construction management teams.
  • Manage the performance of direct reports, motivate, coach, and mentor skilled professionals, and delegate project work.
  • Manage collaboration and conflict resolution to achieve successful results.
  • Practice behaviors supporting diversity and inclusion.
  • Display good business acumen and an understanding of project performance metrics.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities to add value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, preferred, or Mechanical Engineering with twelve plus (12+) years of relevant experience in the design of high voltage electric utility transmission systems.
  • Professional Engineering Registration in at least one U.S. state or equivalent.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD, POLE, TOWER, SAG10, LPILE and/or FAD, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Work effectively in a team environment; can also work independently.

Qualifications

  • Favorable if you have five plus (5+) years of supervising staff.
  • M.S. degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Track record of outstanding communication to serve as primary point of contact for existing and perspective clients.
  • Business acumen with a record of understanding and meeting key project performance metrics.
  • Ability and passion to develop staff through mentoring.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and other applicable standards.
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD, POLE, TOWER, SAG10, LPILE and/or FAD.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $116,350.00 - $210,325.00.

Schedule

This is a hybrid position with office located in downtown Chicago, IL with the potential for fully remote work for the right candidate. Relocation assistance will be provided to those able to relocate within a commutable distance to Chicago.
